Eight moves during a 30-year military career and two post-military and I can say without hesitation this is the worst moving company I’ve ever had - its not even remotely close. Stay away from them! Sadly Mayflower did not service my area in NC so I had to defer to Allied who subcontracted to Carey. Luckily my wife and I packed all of our non-appliance/furniture items. On the Charlotte end of our move we were provided what had to be the two laziest movers in the history of moving. We did appreciate the one mover who took his job seriously and had to take on the brunt of the work - he was great. The driver had to “motivate” one of them just to perform the basic functions of HIS JOB!!
We placed our items in storage in Peoria, AZ as we looked for a home, Our items we packed with no regard. For instance a lawn mower placed on top of a vertically stored sofa. Items stacked with no regard for protection or damage. I did not think I needed to supervise “professional” movers.
We ultimately moved into our home and though it was a 10-minute drive from the storage unit, the small company we used (two people) packed/wrapped all of our items with care and protection. Their review looks a lot different.
I gave them 1 star for the good service we received from the scheduling office and the driver.
Again, stay away!!!

We are in our 70’s and this move was going to be hard on us but necessary. But from the minute the packers arrived, we felt we were in good hands. The crew of loaders and the driver put our mind at ease that they would make this as easy as possible for us and were we ever pleased! You could not ask for a more professional or a team with a terrific attitude towards us and the company they represent. I can not say enough good about Allied. Don’t hire another moving company without checking with Allied first.

My husband and I moved on June 18 and 19th of 2023 from 4100 sq. ft. house in Seneca, SC into 3 storage units (one climate controlled and 2 non-CC) until our new house was ready to move into. Our furniture was high end along with antiques and a lot of expensive art work. We chose Carey Movers out of Greer based on reviews online and price we were quoted. This was the biggest mistake we have ever made. When we had our furniture moved out of storage and into our new house, we discovered the majority of our nice furniture was either broken, dented, smashed, marred, scratched, destroyed and some items totally missing. Items that should have been put in the climate-controlled unit were not and were either damaged or destroyed. After seeing all the damage and destruction of our furniture one would assume that the crew didn’t have any experience what so ever, but I was told by the owner, they were extremely experienced. When you pack a commissioned piece of art with tools, use packing tape directly on leather furniture, not wrap furniture properly and load heavy furniture on top of light weight furniture, it gets broken or damaged! When your items go into storage units, you find out later what disaster looks like when the items are moved out. Thankfully, we chose a different moving company with no issues. We paid to have some of the items repaired, but some were family heirlooms and are irreplaceable. I have moved over 18 times up and down the East and mid-West in my life and used numerous companies with few if any issues. Carey Movers was horrible!!! They don’t deserve a star at all.

My husband and I were probably the most organized and prepared for this move than we had ever been for a move previously. I was eight months pregnant when we were in the process of moving out of state. We packed up our whole house, and labeled all of the boxes as to which room they would go in. My husband moved all of those boxes to the garage for easy loading for the movers. He also completely disassembled any furniture such as tables or beds to make the process go smoother. Long story short, what should have been just a few hours took twelve for the moving crew to load the truck because they grossly underestimated the amount of space we would need on the moving truck that was also shared and subdivided with two other people’s belongings. There was not enough space on the truck for our belongings as the last to be loaded and as a result, the movers played Tetris (Comingling our items with other peoples, no longer placing labels on items or keeping inventory, and stacking our things on the outside of the truck so high (please see picture) that it was not only dangerous but laughable that this was acceptable to them. Instead of the lead mover calling to notify the company that our belongings weren’t going to fit on the truck as soon as he became aware this was the case, he stubbornly moved forward thinking he could make them fit and lost time. We rented a uhaul truck separately, which we had planned on using for our household chemicals and plants, etc; but because the movers didn’t call for the back up truck, they ran out of time since it was after business hours when he finally admitted that not everything was going to fit. The movers ended up also packing our uhaul that we rented separately to the brim with all the items that didn’t fit on the moving truck. There were items we had intended to put on our Uhaul that would not fit. We had to decide which ones were more valuable to us and dispose of the rest. I was in tears at this point, not knowing if any of our things would arrive in one piece, or if someone else would end up with most of our belongings. We had the same moving crew unload for us. Although they were on time to unload as scheduled, several of our boxes that we had labeled ended up in the wrong rooms. Some of our items (a portable Bose speaker) walked off as well. When we notified the moving company of this, they were unwilling to resolve the issue and told us to file a police report and submit our claim. We even gave their parent company, Allied, the opportunity to resolve the issue but they did not either. They were unresponsive and unapologetic at the whole experience and we ultimately were only reimbursed for half of our claim, as they disputed most of the items. Just a horrible experience, and I would not wish that upon anyone. Take your business elsewhere when a move is upon you!

I would not recommend Carey Moving for a long distance move, especially if you need storage. On the Greenville SC end, they did not protect the floors, etc, as promised. Their packing was inexpert. On the destination end, they only had one man to unload the truck. In addition to all the chips and scratches on the furniture, they lost all the shelves for one of my bookcases. It cost a lot, but it was the worst experience of any of my long distance moves. UPDATE: I am lowering my rating to 1 star after seeing all the additional damage found when I unpacked my items that were in storage.
