2 1/2 years ago, I called Carpenter Brothers in Plattsburgh to come and remove furniture from the house and store it for about a year. They said no problem. They provided men who did a great job, removed the furniture, and put it in storage. About a year later, I went for the first time 60 miles from where I live to remove items, and finally, I saw the storage place for the first time and realized only then that the storage unit was a former wooden army barracks. We removed half of the items, so I asked the management for a smaller unit. They said they would look for one and move the items for me to the smaller unit to reduce annual storage fees, but that never happened. Six months later, upon my inquiry, they said they had looked around and were unavailable. So, I was stuck with the larger, more expensive unit. I do wonder if that is correct after today. Yesterday, we had all the items, stored for two years and a couple of months, delivered an hour away to Saranac Lake. One couch, two overstuffed chairs, two mattresses, and other boxed linens arrived mice-infested. I refused delivery of five items, which were ruined and obviously destroyed. I asked the movers to return them to the management as proof of the condition of the ruined items: Nesting materials brought in by mice, holes in upholstery, and boxes infested with live mice and spiders. Two charming and professional men delivered my items. They were not surprised as this seems to be a frequent complaint! I called today to discuss the condition of the items, and I was told that they are not responsible for anything. Damage done by the vermin and the insects after I paid many thousands of dollars to store them is my problem! I have tried to get the owner to return my calls. No response so far. People need to know and judge for themselves and determine whether they want to use this company. I paid many thousands of dollars to store items. This seemed to be a poor company.

My furniture was delivered and four peices were demaged. One bookcase is completely unusable and won't stand up on it own. My bed frame has a big split in the front. One night stand was all banged up and one of the legs demaged and almost gone. Entertainment unit had a chip in the side of it. On top of that had to pay 851 dollars for delivery. Ask if they can take anything off the bill of the delivery charge. They said they couldn't and have to send it to there insurance company and now have to wait and see if I will get anything. The person I talk to said that they will try and fix the problem and send the information to there insurance company. Now it is a wanting game. Tried to email yesterday to see how long it would take them to hear from there insurance. Haven't heard a response back yet. Not to happy right now. Not saying there horrible but just not happy some of my furniture is demaged when it was perfectly fine when it was put in storage. The bed frame and night stand alone to replace them or try to fix it will cost alone 1300.00. So hopefully I get some answers or see a check in the mail soon for the demages.

I hired Carpenter Brothers for a major move of a 4000 Sq. Ft. house. The estimate was for $8000 including packing, and the boss, Kyle, was offering free storage of our things for the week or two until our new home would be ready. It sounded fine until he asked for $19,000 to deliver our belongings because he said we had that much weight. Also, at our request, we asked to have something dropped off at a different address and he said that would be no problem but then said it was part of the charge. After many discussions and arguments, he finally agreed to $12,000 which is 50% more than the estimate. This is outrageous!! In addition, the packing was very poorly done. Clothes were shoved into boxes in any way to fill corners and as a result are all creased and messed up. Several things were broken. Boxes were not labeled properly and contents of various rooms were mixed together so that things are still missing, almost a month later. Some boxes were brought in from other moves they had done and were dirty and marked up. Allthough the head guy was nice, some of the boys seemed very careless about how things were handled. One packer was extremely rude to me and used foul language. I insisted that she leave immediately and i believe she was subsequently fired. I truly regret hiring this company and definitely do not recommend them.
