My consult with Dr Alvarez was excellent. From our discussion, he clearly prepared well (reviewing at least a few years of my medical history from the Sutter Health records). He corrected misconceptions that I had about my hip condition. He explains things clearly, and is an active listener. I won't hesitate to return to his care.

I went to this guy for my neck, knee and shoulder pain. After sending me for MRI and X-rays he literally didn't explain the results of the MRI or X-rays even when I explicitly asked. He just repeated the medical terms from the report from the X-ray technician. I then asked for physical therapy options and twice asked to provide resources specific to my injuries and he said "YouTube is a great resource for physical therapy resources." No follow up or referral to PT or anything. Avoid if you can ask her seems to be a quack who either doesn't know what he's doing or doesn't care enough about his patients to put effort into helping them.

I love seeing Dr. Alvarez. Very kind and patient, I never feel like he is trying to rush me out the door. He is a good listener and lays out clear options. He was also very gentle performing some injections. I hate needles, and barely noticed a pinch during the procedure.

Dr. Sergio Alvarez is an orthopedist at Sutter Health /PAMF in Mountain View. I first saw him last year for my right knee which was painful and with a cyst at my back of the knee.He diagnosed that I have Baker's cyst due to arthritis. He used ultrasound machine and showed that I had enough fluid in my knee which he aspirated and injected cortisone .That was a big relief for me to be able to walk without pain and temporarily got off the use of cane and wheelchair. I had a good time with my class reunion and enjoyed going around places without any pain at all. This lasted about four months. I saw him again this Wednesday to show the same right knee with slight swelling and pain.He suggested to come back for another steroid injection in the next four months .We discussed other treatments that may be able to ease my pain which I told him I am taking already. Other types of treatment were discussed and he was honest in saying that treatments like PRP, stem cell , collagen etc are not helpful . I would say that he is knowledgeable of his specialty and what makes him different from the other orthopedist is he listens well to his patient . He is the only one who uses the ultrasound himself right there and then and offer the proper treatment to his patient.
