Fraud in the name of port charges Imp: do not send your shipment through boxes send it through the container. I sent a shipment from Fremont to India(mid Apr)and still, my package has not been delivered yet(20th Aug). The company is holding my package as I started questioning regarding the port charges While sending the package from the USA there was no clear direction on the port charges which is thousand rupees. It’s in the contract, but it’s hard to notice and misleading too. I noticed it when India Universal sent me the receipt of the charges. My entire shipment got delayed for more than three months and at the last moment, they shifted to Bangalore for which they started charging me more than what’s there in the contract. Universal India sent me charges of ₹ 1600 per box. I was shocked to see the charges that were never officially discussed with me. when I started questioning Universal India company regarding the charges, I never got a satisfying answer. The misleading answers I got are 1) these are port charges or 2) entire shipment charges or 3) under the table charges. When I asked for the receipt from the customs the company refused to provide me the receipt so it’s all universal India, who is charging depends on their calculations which no one is aware of. I feel this is a fraud and fooling the customers who are trusting and sending valuable things. Wish I could have selected container shipment instead of box shipment. this is my request to everyone not to choose box shipment, send it in the container. along with me, One of my friends sent 50-60 boxes and heavy furniture in the container and Universal India charged him around 20 to 25K as a port charge where as I ended up with way more than 20k and my entire shipment was 1/4 of this. India Universal is extremely unprofessional and they will hold your entire shipment if you don’t pay their charges upfront. Charges for which they don’t have a clear explanation. Today they are charging ₹ 1600, they can charge 5000 too. Not no defined rule here It’s like a monopoly. For talking to senior leadership I have to send at least 3-4 emails still I am waiting for a satisfying response. It was a very frustrating experience to send the shipment through Universal, I would suggest going with other options if you cannot then strictly avoid sending it through the boxes and go with the container. I know they will come up with some stupid explanation on my review, but trust me universal India Company is doing fraud in the name of port charges.

We used their service to move from California to Bangalore. Our shipment kept on delaying and we had to buy many things in India that were already coming in the shipment. Eventually I had to find a contact to get custom clearance because our shipment was just sitting at the Chennai port. To my surprise my contact who is a custom officer said that no paperwork was filled at all otherwise it only takes 1 day for them to approve and clear the shipment. I communicated urgency to UR several times but in vain. There were bills after bills and the total amount almost doubled of what was initially quoted to us because insurance, port charges and tips were all on top. I could bear with the cost if my shipment would have reached me in good condition. So many items were broken and were of no use including kitchen items, printer, brand new speakers worth $1800 that were shipped in originally packaging. TV screen had a scratch. When claimed insurance we were very conveniently told that anything packed by customer is not covered under insurance. Wasted a couple of hundred dollars on insurance as well. Not recommended at all.

They did a great job in every way. Low cost, amazing packing, and shipping time was very reasonable. If the packing had been even a little off, our furniture would have been ruined since the boxes ended up getting soaked after getting shipped to our house in India. Overall, very thankful for having found a service like Universal Relocations. You really can’t go wrong with them. -Veena

I used this service to ship boxes from California to India. No doubt they were responsive to my follow ups on the shipment. Their commitment to deliver the boxes in a stipulated time of few weeks ended up being 6 months. Considering COVID, a few weeks or even a month off from the expected arrival of the shipment was acceptable. However, the shipment arrived after 6 months after leaving my home. I will never be using their service.

Have been using this service for over three years my boxes always arrive safely to me when I’m in India . I ship them from Fremont location and receive them in India if I’m not personally in India one of my family memebers receive . But please note you will have to pay some sort of port charge to an account in India which I haven’t been able to do in the USA . The fee is small I haven’t ever paid over 500 rupees.
